This edition, however, presents ”no small measure” of dif­fer­ent readings from a complex corpus of twenty MSS. When Cecil Grayson pub­lish­ed his edition and English translation of De Pictura in 1972, based on a corpus of six MSS, he noted in his Preface that ”the Italian version has undeservedly enjoyed the greater editorial fortune”, in spite of it being ”less full and less precise in expression than the Latin version”.
