One of the first artists who realized this – maybe more out of necessity than out of free will – was Ilya Ka­ba­kov and the School of Moscow Conceptualism (NOMA). Bereft from any opportunity to exhibit in galleries or before any larger audience, Kabakov and NOMA was forced to show their works to each other in their homes – or, alternatively, in unpopulated areas outside of Moscow.
